OCD & Anxiety Therapy in Apple Valley, MN

OCD is not about being neat or organized. It is exhausting, relentless, and often misunderstood. Our specialists use proven methods: ERP, ICBT, and a whole-person approach to help you reclaim your life from obsessions and compulsions.

We Understand OCD

You Know the Thoughts Are Not Logical Nor do They Align with you. You Still Cannot Stop Them.

OCD and anxiety have a way of hijacking the mind. You know the fear is not rational. You know the compulsion will not fix it. And you do it anyway because the alternative feels unbearable. Maybe you have tried to manage it on your own. Maybe you have been in therapy before and the therapist just talked about it but did not actually treat it. OCD requires specific, evidence-based treatment. That is what we provide.

Let’s organize your life around what matter most, not anxiety.

We Treat:

  • OCD : all themes including contamination, harm, religious, sexual, and relationship-themed OCD

  • Health anxiety

  • Panic disorder

  • Social anxiety

  • Perfectionism and performance anxiety

  • Generalized anxiety

  • Phobias

Evidence-Based. Whole-Person. No Band-Aids.

We use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) which is the gold standard treatment for OCD. We also integrate Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT), which targets the specific reasoning errors that fuel obsessions. For many clients, we combine these with mindfulness, acceptance-based approaches, and nervous system regulation work.

We are not here to help you manage your anxiety by avoiding it. We are here to help you move through it and come out the other side with a life that belongs to you again.

We offer OCD therapy and anxiety treatment in Apple Valley, MN for clients in the South Metro including Lakeville, Burnsville, Eagan, Rosemount, Mendota Heights, Prior Lake, and Farmington.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the evidence-based treatment of choice for OCD. It involves gradually and safely facing feared situations while resisting compulsive responses and breaking the OCD cycle at its core.

  • Perfectionism is a personality trait. OCD involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts that create significant distress and compulsive behaviors designed to neutralize that distress. They can look similar but require different treatment approaches.

  • Yes. OCD responds well to ERP therapy. Most clients with OCD see meaningful reduction in symptoms and improved quality of life with the right treatment.

  • Yes. We treat the full range of anxiety including generalized anxiety, panic disorder, social anxiety, health anxiety, and perfectionism whether or not OCD is part of the picture.

  • Carnelia Mental Health provides OCD and anxiety therapy in Apple Valley, MN. We also offer telehealth for clients across Minnesota.

  • Yes, significantly. Standard CBT for OCD often focuses on challenging the content of obsessive thoughts which can actually make OCD worse by engaging with the thoughts. ERP works differently. It targets the compulsive response and teaches the nervous system that the anxiety will pass without the compulsion. If CBT has not worked for you, ERP is worth trying with a trained specialist.

  • Inference-Based CBT (ICBT) targets the specific reasoning errors that drive OCD like the way OCD convinces you that a doubt is more than a doubt, that a possibility is a probability. It is particularly effective for people whose OCD involves a lot of mental reasoning and doubt. We often use it alongside ERP for comprehensive treatment.

  • OCD involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts that create significant distress, followed by compulsions, a mental or behavioral act designed to reduce that distress temporarily. Anxiety is broader and does not always involve compulsions. The distinction matters because they respond to different treatments. A thorough assessment with one of our clinicians will clarify what you are dealing with and what approach fits best.

  • We primarily work with adults and older teens (13+). If you are looking for support for a younger child, we can point you toward appropriate resources. For teens 13 and older, please reach out and we will assess whether our practice is the right fit.

  • ERP is gradual and collaborative. You and your therapist build a hierarchy of feared situations together and work through them at a pace that is challenging but manageable. You are always in control of the process. We do not push you to jump to the top of the hierarchy before you are ready. The goal is progress, not overwhelm.
