Teen Therapy in Apple Valley MN
Being a teenager is genuinely hard.
The pressure, the identity questions, the relationships, the future it is a lot to hold. We get it. We create a space where teens feel genuinely heard, not lectured, and where real progress happens.
Your Teen Does Not Need to Be in Crisis to Deserve Support
A lot of parents wait until things feel urgent to reach out. But therapy works best as a tool for growth, not just rescue. If your teen is pulling away, struggling with anxiety, dealing with friendship drama, losing motivation, or just seems off, these are all valid reasons to seek support. And if things are urgent, we are here for that too.
Our therapists connect with teens. We are not here to talk at them. We listen, take them seriously, and work with them on what they actually care about not just what their parents are worried about.
We work with teens on:
• Anxiety, worry, and social stress
• Depression and low mood
• Identity and self-worth
• LGBTQ+ identity and support
• Friendship and relationship challenges
• Family conflict
• School pressure and perfectionism
• Grief and loss
• Life transitions : high school to college, parents divorcing

Confidentiality applies to teens as well. Your teen's therapist will not share session content unless there is a safety concern, a legal requirement, or your teen gives permission. This is what makes it possible for teens to actually open up.
-
That is very common. We are happy to speak with parents first to discuss strategies for introducing the idea. Sometimes a conversation with the therapist before the first session helps teens feel less resistant.

Teen therapy adjusts to the developmental stage and the reality of a teenager's life including the role of family, school, social dynamics, and the identity work that is happening in real time. Our therapists do not lecture. They meet teens where they are, use language and approaches that actually connect, and give teens a genuine voice in the process. The goal is for your teen to feel like therapy is something they are doing for themselves not something being done to them.
-
That is entirely your decision and your teen's. Therapy records are confidential and are not shared with schools without your written consent. Some families choose to coordinate with school counselors when it is helpful for consistency of support but there is no obligation to do so.
-

We involve parents in a way that fits the teen's age and situation. Younger teens often benefit from more parental involvement. Older teens typically need more autonomy in the therapeutic relationship for it to work. We will discuss the right level of involvement in the first session and adjust as the process unfolds.
-
Yes. School counselors do essential work but they typically see students in brief check-ins with high caseloads. Private therapy offers weekly or biweekly sessions with a dedicated clinician focused entirely on your teen. If your teen is waiting for school support or if school-based services are not enough, we can start sooner and go deeper.
